How Does Your Running Impact the Environment?

November 12th, 2008

After receiving a suggestion a couple of days ago on Twitter to consider recycling my surplus of old running shoes, I began wondering how much my running impacts the planet.

As an overall rule, I think most runners are mindful of their surroundings. Of course, as in any activity, there are a select few who ignore their responsiblities and blatantly toss a gel packet to the ground or a water bottle into nearby bush.

A Google search led me to this article that details the environmental impact of running. It truly opened my eyes and gave me some ideas I never considered.

For more information on how to be a greener runner, you can also check out this article in Runner’s World.

As for me, I think I’ll soon take a trip to the nearest Nike Reuse-A-Shoe site.
